International Trends and Servies Facet - Ethiopia Clean Water Project

Two Members of the GWCC ITS Facet traveled to Ethiopia March 2016 to access the current state of post the health post and the Adare Hospital in Hawassa, Ethiopia as a part of our continued partnership with Ethiopian North American Health Professionals Association (ENAHPA).

International Trends plans to continue the alliance with ENAHPA aimed to address the healthcare needs of Ethiopians by enhancing access and delivery of medicalservices, supplying clean water, promoting preventative care, and transferring knowledge, skills, and state-of-the-art technology. The program work will include plans for the water which will provide clean water to the health post and hospital medical facilities. Today, one of the planned wells is equipped with a Global Citizens purification unit which is flowing to the village and health post servicing approx. 500 people. Clean water sustains life.

Access to safe, clean water and sanitation opens up a world of possibilities for community development. Without water, the most basic element of the health institution like cleaning instruments, hand washing, washing clothes, flushing toilets and all other development efforts will not be realized. Sanitation and hygiene, working together with continuous source of clean and safe water create lasting community health and sustained human growth and development. The proper functioning of the health Post depends with the availability of clean water. Sanitation is possible with safe water source. Just the simple act of washing hands with soap can reduce the incidence of diarrheal disease. When coupled with the use of adequate sanitation facilities and a dependable source of safe and clean water, the multiplied effects are even greater.
